FEDFA spring meeting in Brussels March 14th and 15th 2007

FEDFA AGM (Annual General Meeting) and MCM (Management Committee Meeting) are held in Brussels March 14th and 15th 2007. From our President I've receveid this information:

14th March 1500 AGM starts   1800  AGM ends   1900 Dinner
15th March 0930 Management Committee meeting starts  1300 lunch  1400 meeting continues if necessary 1600 Meeting ends.

I would suggest that members contact Paul Audenaerde for hotel reservations if Paul is willing?  Paul perhaps you could give us the details of the hotel and also please how you would like us to contact you? The Ibis at St Catherine's seems ideal - I am sure we all appreciate being in the centre of the city.
Have any members any particular points they want us to discuss? I will circulate an AGENDA shortly.

I am having no success at all in contacting Ludek Bartos who had offered to help with the survey which I am so anxious to finalise and progress at this meeting. I don't know if any other Czech members can help identify how I can contact him, please? I will try to e-mail around the final draft  of the survey questionnaire incorporating those comments made at the meeting in Poland. We should then try to make progress in actually filling out the survey at least amongst those countries represented at the meeting.

I am trying to arrange for some of us to meet a veterinary committee to discuss three things: progress on the surveillance of TSE diseases in deer since our last meeting, the possibility of those deer farmers who kill their deer in the field with a free bullet being able to choose to have their deer meat treated like wild venison for meat hygiene purposes, and thirdly, the implementation of the new live animal transport regulations insofar as they concenr deer. Are there any other points?

We are unable to meet the agricultural commission because they are all in Strasbourg till the 19th.

Let me have your points for putting in the Agenda, please. And I hope that we can have a good meeting!

Sincerely, John

A EU Commission proposal is under discussion with the EU Member States at the moment for a survey for Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) in European deer species. It would target both wild and farmed deer populations, with a specific emphasis on red deer and white tailed deer (only in Finland and CZ republic), based on the recommendations of the European Food Safety Authority in its opinion of June 2004:

http://www.efsa.eu.int/science/biohaz/biohaz_opinions/501_en.html

It is proposed that for farmed deer, the best animals to get are old animals, and thus older females and males are the target group. President Johan Trygve Solheim, vet. John Fletcher, vet. Paul Audernaerde and dr. Rolf Eriksson will meet Ms. Sinéad Diederich and Mr. Koen van Dyck from the European Commission, TSE Section, Unit D2, DG Sanco. The meeting will take place in the European Commission’s offices in Brussels March 14th 10am. For more information about CWD in deer:
